1. Teachers and launguge.
My daughter is in 4th grade. She attends a public elementary school in Arkansas. She is one out of 2 white children in her classroom. All the other students are African American, Hispanic, or Indian race. I was amazed when I learned this. In her classroom she is in a minority group. Very different from years ago. We have a lot more Hispanic and other races of people now than we did several years ago. So I am going to research different schools and gather a lot of information on this. I know my daughters teacher does not speak Spanish, but they have a Spanish teacher that enters the classroom one day a week. I know the assistant principal at her school speaks Spanish because when we go to after school programs he is always there to translate to the parents who do not understand English.
2. One requirement to graduate.
Also, since my last post several years ago, I have learned that it is required for students in high school to study a different language, I believe it is two years, before they can graduate. Where we live Spanish is the one language that all the schools offer. Some schools offer different languages, but only Spanish is offered in all schools. I was amazed to learn this.
I am going to do a lot of research on this matter, and I will be posting every day if possible. Any concerns or feedback that you may have would be greatly appreciated.
